Jonathan Ward is a space enthusiast and collector. Among his earliest memories is watching the Echo satellite traverse the night sky in 1961. Jonathan’s father toured KSC and the Manned Spaceflight Center in August 1969, just after the return of Apollo 11. The souvenirs that he brought back home are Jonathan’s oldest and most treasured collectibles.

Jonathan volunteered as a summer tour guide at the National Air and Space Museum from 1971-72, where he drove a Lunar Rover and watched Al Worden’s Apollo 15 EVA on a small TV with Mike Collins in the NASM library.  He worked for several years as a contracts manager for Boeing on the Space Station Freedom program.

Jonathan currently serves as a Solar System Ambassador as part of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) public outreach program. He frequently presents talks on manned and unmanned spaceflight at meetings of astronomy clubs, in museums, and at regional astronomy conferences.

Jonathan is currently writing a book entitled, “This is Apollo-Saturn Launch Control: The Story of the Engineers and Facilities That Launched Apollo to the Moon.” Additional information about this project can be found here.

Jonathan’s space collection has grown in recent years.  He is an active contributor to collectSPACE.com.  He can be reached with questions, comments, suggestions, and feedback at apollolaunchcontrol@gmail.com
